Working on a one to one basis with a GCSE maths tutor certainly does mean that the student has the tutor’s undivided attention. However, for many children of this age this is an exceptionally intimidating prospect. This may result in the child clamming up and not actually getting the most out of the tuition sessions. Moreover, in such an intensive environment the student may feel under a great amount of pressure. In either case this is certainly not beneficial to the development of the student’s maths skills and can actually result in no progress being made at all.
Conversely, within a small group environment the student has access to the knowledge and the experience offered by the online maths tutor. However, this is not provided with the same degree of intensity as on a one to one basis. Rather, the student can enjoy the advantages of personal attention without the disadvantages. Moreover, it has been found that students thrive within an environment where they are surrounded by a small group of their peers. In such an environment they quickly realise that they are not the only ones to struggle with a particular problem and further learn effectively by working through problems with their peers.
