Enrollment ProcessNatural Discovery Montessori Charter School admits students of any economic and social class, racial and ethnic heritage, religious belief, disability and family structure. In order to be considered for Kindergarten, a child needs to be five (5) by September 1st.
Open Enrollment
Entrance tests are conducted in February of the proceeding school year during open enrollment. The open enrollment period is from November 1st through February 28th or 29th. Notices of open enrollment are posted on the website, school literature and with the local school board. To be considered, an enrollment application must be turned into the school on or before 3:00pm, March 15. Postmark applications are not accepted if received into the office after the 15th.
Lottery
Students are admitted into the school based on a lottery, unless they fall into a preference category. Accepting students based on the lottery is required under Del. C, Title 14, 506 (3). The lottery is conducted by the Director of the school and three board members. Names are placed in a hat and drawn.
Enrollment Preference
Students who fall into the following categories, in order listed, will automatically be admitted into the school and will not need to go through the lottery system for acceptance into the school:
- Students of founding board members
- Students who are deaf or have a hearing loss
- Students of full time employees
- Students of siblings
- Students living within the city where the school is located
Parents will be notified, through mail, that their child(ren) has been accepted into the school no later than the end of April. An acceptance letter will be mailed along with an agreement form. The agreement form is confirmation that the parent(s) will enroll their child(ren) into the school the following year. Agreement forms must be returned to the school no later than May 15 or the child(ren) will lose their space in the school and the school will begin to pull from the waiting list.
Waiting List
All students on the waiting list will be carried over from year to year. At the conclusion of each lottery, parents whose child(ren) are on the waiting will be asked if they wish to keep them on the waiting list. If a parent elects not to have him/her remain on the wait list will be withdrawn from the school and will have to re-enter through the lottery for future consideration. If a parent elects to remain on the waiting list, the child(ren) will remain and will move up on the waiting list as students prior to them are enrolled or removed. Parents will be notified of their wait list number in June.
