New Montessori Charter School Planning to Open
Natural Discovery Montessori Charter School, Inc. (NDMCS), an alternative method to traditional education, is proposing to open in Sussex County of Delaware. Montessori education is a philosophy of child development and the method of applying the philosophy in an educational environment to guide a child's growth and the love for learning. Children are respected as unique individuals and as important members of the community. The child has an absorbent mind in which they naturally learn from their environment. A Montessori classroom is set up to focus on the child's experiences within the environment. Individualized curriculums are designed to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of the children within the class. Teachers create the environment by adopting carefully selected educational materials. Teachers guide and observe the children based on the continuing changes within the child.

Montessori education was developed and founded by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1907, Maria Montessori based her philosophy of education on the human tendency within the child to explore, to move, to share with a group, to be independent and make decisions, to create order, to develop self control, to abstract ideas from experience, to use creative imagination, to work hard, to repeat, concentrate and perfect one's efforts and creations.
